”UK盤 12inch”の「Special Disco Version」でお聴き下さい
64年、New Jerseyにて"Robert Kool"(B)と"Ronald" (Key)のBell兄弟を中心にハイスクール仲間であるGeorge Brown (Drs)、Claydes Smith(G)、Dennis Thomas (Sax)、Rick West (Key)、Robert Mickens (Trumpet)の7人組で結成
当初はリード・ヴォーカルは置かずにJazz Funkを中心に演奏スタイルで69年にアルバム「Kool and the Gang (全米R&B43位）」でデビュ－、73年「Wild and Peaceful」が全米R&Bチャ－ト6位とRIAA認定ゴ－ルドディスクを獲得し、以降76年「Open Sesame」まで5枚のアルバムを全米R&Bチャ－トTop10に送り込み「前期Jazz Funk期」の全盛期を迎えます
グル－プの改革は79年、James "J.T." Taylorをリ－ドボ－カルに迎え、Deodatoプロデュ－スの元に作成された「Ladies' Night」は全米R&Bチャ－ト第1位とRIAA認定ダブルプラチナムを獲得し空前のブ－ムを巻き起こします
以降86年「Forever」までは全米R&Bチャ－トTop10とRIAA認定ゴ－ルドディスクを獲得しヒットメイカ－の地位を確立しました。J.T.などメンバ－の脱退、変遷はありますが2007年には11年振りになるアルバム「STILL KOOL」をリリ－ス、2014年にグループ結成50周年を迎え、2016年7月には新曲“Sexy"も発表、現在でも活躍するスーパー・ファンク・バンドです
