49年アラバマ州産まれ、。Black Musicの枠を超越した、黒人のポップスターとして評価の高いアーティスト「Lionel Richie 」

67年、Lionel Richie在学中にタスキーギ大学の学生5人で「Commodores」結成。71年に「Jackson 5」のライブツアーのオープニングアクトを務めたことでモータウンとの契約、74年にレコード・デビューします。

Commodoresは演奏面に比重を置いたFUNKバンドからLionel Richieの甘い歌声をフィーチャーしたバラードバンド路線を押し進めるようなりメガヒットを量産しますが、Lionel Richieは82年に脱退・・・・・・・ソロ活動開始後はその本領を益々発揮、82年ソロデビュ－から、全米アルバムチャートにおいて初登場2位を記録した2012年の最新作まで15枚のアルバムをリリ－ス

グラミ－賞やアカデミ－賞も獲得し、現在までの全世界アルバムトータルセールスは、1億枚以上を誇るス－パ－スタ－です
