ロサンゼルス出身、”兄・George Johnson (G, Vo)”と”弟・Louis Johnson (B)”の兄弟ユニット「Brothers Johnson」、10代から”Bobby Womack”や”Billy Preston”のバックでプロとして活躍
75年「Quincy Jones」の名作アルバム”Mellow Madness”で大活躍したことで注目され、76年には「Quincy Jones Productions」からデビュー、デビュ－アルバム「Look Out for #1」は、”全米R&Bチャ－ト第1位”と”RIAA・プラチナム認定”を獲得、一躍スタ－ダムにのし上がり、その後も、「Light Up the Night (80年)」まで4枚のアルバムは全て”RIAA・プラチナム認定”を獲得、セ－ルス面でもス－パ－グル－プに君臨します
